Holy shit, RIP Kevin Conroy. No single live action Batman actor has as much of a legacy as he does, he WAS Batman for so many, the absolute best to do it.
His Batman portrayal was, in every iteration, three-dimensional.
Conroy’s Batman is human, kind, trying to fix something that’s broken in his city and in himself, you could FEEL the child fantasy of “I lost my family, I will never let it happen to anyone else”
We’d only learn recently he portrayed him as a reflection of his queer pain, of his own dual identity as a gay man in Hollywood and the pain and loss and fear he experienced during the AIDS crisis, enriching his performance all the more.
There will never be a Batman voice actor, never be a Batman actor period with his impact and legacy. He created a performance for an iconic (perhaps the MOST iconic) comic book character so powerful that its the voice that I, and many others hear in their head when they read the comics, a performance SO DAMN GOOD he became a cross-generational Batman because they rarely ever thought of someone else to bring in for the character.
